Teeth whitening has been practiced since ancient times, and may of the more natural ways of whitening teeth are used today, by regulating one's diet to ensure a clean, bright smile! Certainly, there are ways to whiten your teeth with gels, strips, and pens, but another great tool is food. That's right, foods can either help or hurt your teeth, depending on how they are eaten and what you're eating.

Not To Eat

It is best to not drink coffee, tea, colas or red wine, which are all known to stain teeth and cause some decay of the enamel. Apples and potatoes can cause discoloration, but they also tend to clean off the teeth. Just wash your mouth out after eating apples.

Great things to do for your teeth

Strawberries can be made into a puree and smothered on the teeth, as strawberries have a natural enzyme that removes tooth stains.

Orange peels can be used to remove tooth stains, just by rubbing the inside of a peel against your tooth surfaces.

A little lemon juice and salt work very well to remove stains just wash your mouth out with this, or even rock salt and warm water will work at night to remove stains.

Baking soda has long been known to work wonders on your smile. It may taste awful, but put some baking soda on your toothbrush, brush with it, and then wash your mouth out.

Also, if you are a tobacco user, stop or slow down your tobacco use, as both dipping and smoking can cause tooth discoloration. Avoid mouthwash, as it sometimes will stain teeth.

Finally, remember that an ounce of prevention is worth more than a pound of cure. Going to the dentist once or twice a year for a cleaning and checkup will do your smile wonders.

www.teethwhitener.net

About Protecting Your Child's Teeth

We as parents always want whats best for our children, so its normal to be concerned with their teeth, and making sure they have beautiful and healthy smiles.

Dental health is the foundation of overall human health. Since, everything we eat has to pass through our mouth first, oral hygiene is extremely important to ensure a hygienic diet. Apart from all the health issues related to our teeth, they also are a very significant element of our appearance. Perfectly aligned teeth enhance the beauty of a person's smile and help in leaving a good impression. Even if someone lacks that, orthodontics can be of much help. However, Braces might only help with cosmetic issues not the strength and health of teeth.

What helps in having strong and healthy teeth is proper and daily dental care. This care should be taken from the early years of childhood. Therefore, it is up to parents to make sure that their child grows up with perfectly strong teeth. There are many things parents can do about it, but it is important to understand a child's teeth and the likely problems that can affect them.

The very first teeth a child develops are called milk teeth. Usually there are twenty milk teeth, and all of them are developed by the age of four. They eventually start to fall out and by the age of twelve, in most children their permanent teeth start erupting. Proper care and hygiene habits employed for milk teeth play a very important role in the development of permanent ones.

Cavities, tooth decay and erosion are a few of the most common problems that can affect the dental health of a child. Bacteria are naturally present in our mouth. These bacteria feed on sugar in our food, which turns into acid. This acid can harm the outer layer of a tooth and make it prone to decay. If this decay is not handled properly, it reaches the root of the tooth and causes toothache.

The acid present in frizzy drinks and juices erodes away the tooth enamel. This leaves teeth weak and sensitive. This is called erosion. Since it is not curable, prevention is the best way to go. Parents can do a lot to save their kids from such problems. First of all, regular visits to the dentist are extremely important so that any problem can be nipped in the bud. Yet, the most important factor is the care and effort you put in this matter.

As mentioned before, the basic reason behind most common problems is food and diet. Avoid giving too many sugary foods to your child, especially processed food. Sugar found in natural vegetables, fruit and milk is harmless. In fact, dairy products and vegetable rich in vitamin D are great for kids.

Teaching them proper and consistent brushing habit can really help in ensuring strong healthy teeth. Make them brush with a soft bristled brush and fluoride toothpaste under your supervision. Fluoride helps in preserving the enamel, thus making them strong and protected.

If your child's permanent teeth start to grow in a strange manner, consult a dentist before it is too late. Your child will always smile and be thankful to you for this.

Cincinnati orthodontics

Ferret Teeth Care And Problems

Much like us humans, our pets often suffer from the same dental issues that we suffer from, even cute little Ferrets are known to have problems with their teeth.

All animals are touchy when it comes to examining their teeth. The same holds true for ferrets. Rest assured your ferret won't be sitting quite while you check up his teeth. However, ferret teeth just like ours, need efficient oral care.

Ferrets` teeth are snowy white. When they begin to get colored, you know there is a problem. Since ferrets are habituated to eat soft foods they have a higher tendency to develop plaque and tartar. The teeth turn yellow with interspersed brown spots. Gums can get infected if the tartar builds up. The gums will gradually recede and ultimately the infected tooth would fall off.

Examining the teeth of your pets is very important. If you have not checked their teeth for sometime, look for signs of swelling of the jaw line. Your pet ferret may like to nip you while you examine ferret teeth. Ferret gums are pink in color and turn white, gray or bluish when infected. Bleeding gums means there is Gingivitis. If the ferret develops dental infection it can very quickly spread over to the whole body and cause serious diseases.

If your pet ferret displays the above symptoms, you need to take him to the vet for an thorough check up. The vet will examine the mouth for any problems of the teeth and other gum infections. He would clean the pet after duly anaesthetizing and spraying the mouth with antibacterial solutions. Vets would also remove the tartar with an ultrasonic scalar.

Examine the mouth of a ferret puppy is relatively easy, and you can do this regularly. As a puppy it will quickly get used to the mouth examinations. So, when you examine, be gentle since these are gentle pets and require careful handling. It is recommended to use a toothbrush for better results.

A little oral care for your pet can go a long way. It helps in maintaining hygiene and good health.

FerretCareHelp.com

Why Whiten Your Teeth?

Teeth whitening has seemingly taken over the world in which we live, but the question is, why has whitening your teeth become so popular in the last decade?

Teeth whitening has become popular due to several reasons. The first of these reasons is that it works and generally when something is positive you tend to tell friends and family and this creates a viral impact and then they get teeth whitening and so on.

The next reason is that there is so many products and services available that no matter what your budget there will be a product or service that fit you and your lifestyle.

Lastly it represents really good value because it does last quite a long time compared to lots of other treatments and services that people consider a health and beauty benefit!

Of course having whiter teeth does not improve or make worse your dental health as whitening just changes the color and the appearance of the front surface of the teeth. So regular visits to the dentist needs to kept and this will maintain a good overall balanced between having whiter teeth and healthy teeth and gums!

Anthers reason the whitening industry continues to grow is the emergence of newer technologies like laser whitening which offers greatly reduced treatment times to just one hour and the teeth are noticeably whiter in color. This instant whiteness is a huge benefit to people who are short of time and unlikely to use tray based systems because of the regular disciplined approach you need to take with them.

Whitening is a good thing but do not get carried away that your teeth are going to pure white in color as many of us would never get pure white teeth as generally the natural color of our teeth are slightly creamy in color and few people end up with pure white like we see on tv when stars have had veneers fitted over the top of their natural teeth.

A brightening and being able to remove the yellow staining which is caused by everyday stuff like drinking cola, tea or blackcurrant juice as some examples which will change the color of the teeth over a period of time. Other foods stuffs can include pasta sauces, spices in curries and Asian foods, soya sauce used in Chinese foods and even gravy will stain the teeth leaving them yellow or brown in color.

There is good news that you can enjoy these listed foods and drinks and have whiter teeth but consider whitening as an ongoing activity as enjoying these things and more will eventually re-stain the teeth and make them yellow again so keep it up.

Positive benefits from whitening can include improved self confidence and self esteem as well anyone you met seeing you in a different light as you look younger and healthier because of a whiter smile.

Laser whitening is just one of the services available to whiten the teeth and there are other systems including zoom whitening and power whitening which also work in just one hours treatment time.

This website shows a lot more about laser whiten teeth.

Gingivitis Causes And Treatment

Keeping your mouth hygienically clean is an absolute necessity for not only your teeth but for the entire body. Find out the cause of gingivitis (periodontal disease) and what steps you take to treat the condition.

Gingivitis, generally called gum disease or periodontal disease, describes the events that begin with bacterial growth in your mouth and may end - if not properly treated - with tooth loss due to destruction of the tissue that surrounds your teeth. Periodontal disease affects the periodontal tissue and alveolar bone. There are numerous types of periodontal diseases, but the most common one is plaque induced inflammation. Gum disease is very common in most people and usually a family dentist can treat it. However, in certain cases the help of a specialist might be required. Periodontal conditions are treated by specialists known as Periodontist.

Plaque is the primary cause of a gum disease however, other factors contribute to periodontal disease as well. The most common reason is improper oral hygiene. If periodontal disease is detected early on, the progress can be prevented and completely cured, just by following a proper oral hygiene regimen. Proper plaque control consists of professional cleanings at least twice a year and daily brushing and flossing. Brushing eliminates plaque from the surfaces of the teeth that can be reached; flossing removes food particles and plaque from in between the teeth and under the gum line. Antibacterial mouth rinses can reduce bacteria in the mouth that cause plaque and gum disease, according to the American Dental Association.

If periodontal disease is not detected early on, dental procedures may be necessary to treat it. The goals of gum disease treatment are to promote reattachment of healthy gums to teeth; reduce swelling, the depth of pockets, and the risk of infection; and to stop disease progression. Treatment options depend on the stage of disease, how you may have responded to earlier treatments, and your overall health. Options range from nonsurgical therapies that control bacterial growth to surgery to restore supportive tissues.

Most common surgical procedure to treat periodontal conditions involves removal of plaque and calculus from the teeth by scaling and root-planning. This is different from regular cleaning procedures. It is more invasive when compared to ordinary cleaning procedures and also requires anesthesia. In extreme cases, the infection will penetrate deep into the jawbone. In such cases, full-fledged surgical procedures may be required to retract the gum line, access the site of infection, and remove infected tissues. If proper care is not taken and the infection is allowed to grow, it can have serious consequences. In extreme cases, periodontal disease can adversely affect the bone tissue and in such cases, bone grafts may be required. Researchers have uncovered potential links between gum disease and other serious health conditions. In people with healthy immune systems, the bacteria in the mouth that makes its way into the bloodstream is usually harmless. But under certain circumstances microorganisms are associated with health problems such as heart disease and diabetes.

It is very essential to control periodontal disease in its initial stages and the best way to do so is to visit your dentist regularly (every 4-6 six month) and follow proper oral hygiene.

Periodontal Disease

Effects Of Aging On Teeth

Lets face it, we're all getting older and its just a matter of time before we start to notice that our bodies are starting to change, in a not some positive way. Read below and discover the effects aging has on our teeth and ways you can help preserve those essential little things we call teeth.

A number of toothpastes have started advertising that their products will prevent aging in teeth and restore a person’s teeth to their appearance when the person was younger. While these things sounds great, the aging process affects the teeth in ways that are frequently irreversible and have little to do with cosmetic appearance.

First of all, tooth loss is not part of the normal aging process. While tooth loss is not part of the aging process, it is more prevalent in older adults than it is in younger individuals. This is because of changes in the soft tissues of the mouth, a less effective immune system, increased systemic diseases, and a person’s decreased ability to perform adequate oral hygiene and self dental care. This decreased ability can be due to any number of causes. Some common causes include strokes, arthritis, Parkinson’s disease, dementia, or even Alzheimer’s. Another cause of tooth loss in older adults has absolutely nothing to do with a person’s abilities but has everything to do with the number of prescription and over-the-counter medicines that a person may be taking. These medications commonly cause dry mouth which can contribute to dental problems.

In general, with age, teeth become less white and more brittle. They lose some of their luster and are just less perfect than when the teeth were 20 years old. These things cannot be prevented but the general level of staining can be reduced if a person avoids tobacco, coffee, and tea. Like finger nails that thicken and yellow with age, teeth are the same way. In teeth, the underlying dentin can darken and even yellow because it is thickening. The enamel on a person’s teeth is somewhat transparent and so this shows through.

Another side effect of aging is that the teeth can be become brittle. When the teeth are brittle, they are susceptible to cracks, fractures, and shearing. With time, the enamel on the teeth is subjected to wear due to chewing, grinding, and acidic foods.

The biggest cause of tooth loss in older adults has to do with the decline in the fiber content and blood vessels of the gum tissues. Gum disease is not a disease confined to old people but rather is a cumulative disease. So while the results of the disease are seen more frequently in older people, it is not a disease that is more common among the elderly. The cumulative effects of the disease just catch up with them at that point.

Chicago family dentists

Taking Care of Sensitive Teeth

Many people have experienced sensitive teeth which makes eating and drinking uncomfortable to say the least. It is very painful and can affect people overall attitude and well-being. Sufferers if not treated can develop phobias but they can be assured that it is definitely treatable.

What happens after drinking or eating something cold, breathing in cold air in winter brings on pain in the affected teeth which can be quite intense. With unbearable pain the nerve could be exposed and needs to be seen by a dentist.

Many people through use of a hard bristled tooth brush gradually wear away the gum around the neck of the teeth and thereby exposing the root surface of the teeth and the dentine layer of the tooth. Being exposed the roots have no protection and as the dentine is composed of tubules which deal directly with the nerve any stimulation will result in extreme pain until the stimulus is removed.

Not everyone with receding gums and exposed dentine will experience pain but those that do will suffer until they professional help from their dentist.

The best treatment in all cases is to prevent the gums receding in the first place and this is by keeping them healthy by not over brushing. Using less pressure will help as well as using a technique with a soft bristled tooth brush.

The technique is angling the head of the toothbrush at about 45 degrees to the gum line on the lip or cheek side of the tooth so that it starts at the junction between the gum and the tooth and slow controlled sideways movement back and forth will remove plaque and food debris from this vulnerable area. The toothbrush is then brushed along the tooth away from the gum line.

Many patients have not been properly instructed by their dentist and that is one reason gum recession is commonly caused by over brushing and the resulting pain is a real one for many.

With electric toothbrushes such as Sonicare there is no physical contact with the teeth or gums and this will significantly be a lot easier to use.

Sensitivity can be reduced with toothpastes which contain potassium nitrate to reduce the pain and discomfort, with Sensodyne being a popular choice for many sufferers, as it stops the pain quickly and efficiently by blocking the openings of these tubules.

The use of fluoride containing mouthwashes can also help with teeth sensitivity.

It is advisable to avoid alcohol containing mouthwashes as the alcohol will dry the mouth out and reduce saliva flow which is crucial in keeping the oral tissues moist and help to buffer acidity in the mouth and thereby reducing the formation of dental decay.

If the use of sensitive toothpastes and mouthwashes do not reduce or eliminate the pain then your dentist may need to bond an adhesive filling to cover the exposed areas. This is the next step in treatment options.

In extreme cases root canal treatment where the nerve of the tooth is removed altogether will relieve the pain, and obviously at this stage complex dentistry is required.

For many people this level of treatment must be avoided and this is only done by patients presenting early in the first place so that phobias from resulting pain do not develop.

http://www.gindentalstudio.com

Bruxism Mouth Guard

Bruxism (grinding of the teeth) is a condition that plagues countless people around the world, and while dentists recommend using a mouth guard, is this really the best method of treatment for this stress related ailment?

If you have a problem with grinding your teeth at night (bruxism), your dentist may recommend getting a mouth guard. There are several problems with that option, the most obvious being that the night guard will not cure the teeth grinding.

If your dentist makes a custom bruxism mouth guard for you it will not be cheap. These types of mouth guards usually run between $500.00 to $700.00 and they will wear down over time. The mouth guard's purpose is to prevent further damage to your teeth and so instead of your teeth being damaged you will be "damaging" the night guard. Over time your teeth will grind away the mouth guard and then another expensive one will have to be made. It is a never ending process.

Having to wear a bruxism night guard for the rest of your life may be problematic as well. When you first get your mouth guard you will probably wear it every night but, lets face it, how long is that likely to continue? Every one of us who have had braces or some night time apparatus to help align their teeth knows that we couldn't wait until they came off. With a night time bruxism mouth guard will it be that much different? Wearing a mouth guard to bed at night is just not a comfortable thing to do for the rest of your life.

This leads to the conclusion that a bruxism mouth guard may not be the best long terms solution to the problem. It can be a temporary band aid but the teeth grinding will still be continuing and not be cured. Is there a cure for bruxism? Many feel that bruxism has to do with stress and stress related issues in a person's life. Dealing with that stress may be the solution for some people while it may not help others. There are other ways to tackle bruxism head on. They will probably not work overnight but they will set you on your way to curing bruxism rather than just putting a band aid over it.

stop grinding teeth

Floating Horses Teeth Meaning and Why it is Necessary

Unlike humans that chew their food, horses grind their food; a process called mastication. Because of this grinding motion which is from side to side, horses teeth will become sharp on the outside next to their cheek, and on the inside bottom next to their tongue. As you can guess, if you do not have a horse dentist come in and float their teeth, meaning the dentist will have long handled tools called floats, go into their mouths and take off the sharp edges of both the top and bottom of their teeth, your horse will encounter problems grinding and digesting their food in the proper manner. There are a lot of misconceptions about horses' teeth and how often they need to be floated, and at what age you should start with dentistry.

Just as in most areas concerning horses, opinions vary greatly. I can only give you the formula that has worked for me and my four legged friends. Because of having two year olds in training, and having food in front of them constantly, (which means a lot of food consumption), I started using a dentist for these two year olds in the latter months of the second year. This is because as three year olds, they have what they call caps on their back molars which are basically baby teeth that are being undermined by the growing in of their permanent teeth.

These caps can be left to fall out on their own but they usually are very bothersome to the horses, sometimes causing them to go off of their feed because it is hard for them to masticate. Signs of this will be a constant tilting of their head and moving their tongue around in an unusual manner. Caps are not the only issue. Wolf teeth can also be painful for the horse when you put the bridle on and the bit in their mouth. As the rider pulls back on the reins causing the bit to move in the horses' mouth up against the wolf tooth, there can be not only great pain but a very disagreeable head throwing horse to follow. Wolf teeth are rogue teeth that are easily removed. It is usually necessary to have them removed as well.

Horses' teeth grow constantly from what is called the alveolus. This means that the teeth have only a certain amount of length to them. This is why elderly horses eventually must be fed very soft mixtures of feed because they no longer have teeth that are growing; meaning their teeth are worn out and may eventually lose some of the teeth they have left. So it is very important that you have a dentist that knows what he or she is doing. You do not want their teeth taken down too much as this will affect their ability to masticate and shorten the life of their teeth for the future.

Personally, as a general rule, I like horses that are not in training and are full mouthed, (meaning having a full set of teeth grown in), usually at the age of five years, done every six months. I had racing horses checked about every three months, just for taking off the edges, checking for caps, and helping to insure proper mastication and digestion. If your horse is not grinding their food properly, the grains will not be absorbed as they should, will flow through the system losing precious nutrients, and may cause loss of weight even though they are being fed the proper amount of food for their age, size, breed and amount of work.

Some horses may go as long as a year between floatings. This is probably the usual amount of time that the majority of people allow their horses to go in between dental visits. Having your horses teeth floated is just as important as worming and blacksmith work. If you are riding your horse and he or she is constantly flipping their head, giving you a hard time when you ask the horse to turn, there probably is an issue involving their teeth.

The sharp edges created by mastication can be like razor blades cutting either into your horses tongue or onto the cheeks of their mouth. Find out the pros and cons of teeth whitening treatments.

For those who want a brighter smile, it helps to know about the advantages of home teeth whitening kits when compared with a visit to the dentist for the same treatment.

You might be surprised to learn that there are several benefits to whitening your teeth at home using a specialist. You can get professional direct whitening of your teeth at home in four easy sessions, for a fraction of the cost of a whitening session at the dentist.

When you visit a dentist for treatment, there are strong bleaching gel formulas that are used during the whitening process, which will ultimately cost you a fair amount to purchase along with the expense of the dentist's time. There might be several appointments involved to get the teeth whitening results desired too.

The bad thing about some types of these treatments is that they make teeth more sensitive to hot and cold and the enamel layer is compromised so they absorb stains much easier. For this reason, it is possible that treatments will need to be repeated every six months or so.

On the other hand, there are safe home teeth whitening kits you can purchase that contain the same products that 95% of the dentists use, which are less damaging, but come at just a fraction of the cost. When you consider home teeth whitening kits vs. the dentist, there are home teeth whitening kits that contain bleaching ingredients that are almost as strong in whitening power, but they aren't nearly as expensive and you can use the kits in your spare time, in the comfort of your home. Often, the home teeth whitening kits are about the same price as dinner for two and they work as well as the direct whitening treatments you get in the dentist office, but the enamel layer is not as radically affected with most home teeth whitening kits.

It is important to consider that a whiter smile is possible with both options, but when it comes to a home whitening kit against a visit to a dental surgery, many people like the ability to whiten their teeth affordably and conveniently to the level of whiteness they desire. There are many kits that are effective and offer easy to follow instructions. When it comes to the best home teeth whitening kits and their success, they have been tested by many people that offer consumer reviews you can find on the Internet; this allows you to do a little research to put your mind at ease.

In fact, the best thing to do when you are comparing home kits and the dentist, is to research the products and the bleaching gels, but also be sure to look for customer testimonials and reviews to help you find the best products. Laser lights aren't a necessary part of the whitening process for teeth, so home teeth whitening kits are quite effective and so affordable that everyone can have a whiter smile with safe and effective ingredients that cause less damage to the teeth enamel than a drinking a couple glasses of fruit juice a day.

So if you want to be beaming brightly once again, there are plenty of kits that can help you make it happen at a fraction of the cost, with great ease and complete safety.

Teeth Whitening Treatment Process

Random Interesting Facts About Teeth

Lets face it, teeth are absolutely priceless to us humans and suffice to say they are the only real pair we'll ever get, so its absolutely imperative to care of them, in every way we can. Learn some interesting facts about teeth, and perhaps one day this information will save your beautiful smile.

Whether it is a heartening smile or a threatening grin, we all know how it can cast a strong impression. It is common knowledge that we get only one permanent set of choppers which is meant to last for a lifetime, so it is important for people to take good care of them. A survey proves 50% of the world populace is not happy with their smile because they think that is the reason for their disgrace. Cosmetic dentistry can help you in this case. A dentist can restore your teeth in order to give you a perfect smile.

There are some other interesting facts that most people are unaware of. Here are some which can help you improve your oral hygiene:

1. If you lose a tooth as a result of concussion or in any other accident, then there are chances of re-implanting it within 30 minutes, the only condition is; it needs to be in one piece. During your visit to the emergency room, try to remain calm for this will prevent much blood loss. Be careful in holding the tooth only by the corona and thoroughly rinse it with warm water. A dental expert will recommend biting a handkerchief for five minutes in order to get the teeth back in its place. With this practice, you will never lose a tooth permanently.

2. The second fact is regarding foods containing acids. It is not just sugar that causes tooth decay, but acidic foods are equally responsible. It is better not to brush your teeth after eating acidic foods or drinks such as orange juice because acid causes the enamel to soften and brushing removes the outer layer, thus making it more prone to decay. In order to avoid this situation, you can eat protein rich food which will neutralize the acidic environment.

3. The third fact is about dental treatments. We all know how painful a toothache can get and sometimes the removal or treatment can be even more painful. However, there is a treatment known as the YAG which is basically surgery which employs laser that targets the decayed tissue beneath the tooth. As this treatment is completely free from pain, there is no need for the administration of anesthesia. Moreover, the patient can be spared from the fear of drills.

4. There are people who may never know that, besides other side effects, drugs can cause serious damage to their choppers. Drugs can release a chemical inside our bodies which can lead to euphoria. Within a year's time, the user experiences sensitivity which can very easily lead to permanent loss of teeth, a condition termed as the "meth mouth". If the situation gets worse, the pain can lead to full mouth extractions and the person might have to wear permanent dentures.

These are some of the facts a common person should know in order to improve their oral hygiene. By using the above suggestions, you will have your pearly whites for a very long period of time.

Fort Lauderdale cosmetic dentist

Replacing Missing Teeth Options

There are plenty of people who are missing teeth, commonly caused by an accident or perhaps from neglecting dental hygiene. This surgical procedure involves administration of local anesthesia. The surgeon cuts open the gums to cut the bone and the wisdom teeth and extract them in bits of as a whole. End of the procedure he sutures the bleeding gums together, cleans up the area and a gauze is place in place along with antiseptic medication.

Post operation the effect of local anesthesia wears off in a few hours and the patients start feeling the pain and discomfort, coupled with swelling. This is normal in surgical cases and the healing process takes anywhere from 48 hours to 72 hours to begin healing. Unless one develops any complications due to any problems arising out of surgical procedure, or any tooth bit left over or skin infection etc, the recovery is smooth as long as the doctors prescribed routine and precautions are followed along with medication. In case the patient is found to be suffering from diabetes or Blood Pressure etc, one would have to watch out for any abnormality in the healing process.

The first question the patients ask the doctor after surgery often is how to decrease impacted wisdom teeth swelling. Swelling of the gums in post operative cases is natural which results due to the inflammation of the skin and gums where in tissues have been cut. Doctors prescribe pain killers to reduce the pain along with antibiotics to keep away any bacterial infection.

However for the swelling to reduce two things have to be followed mainly. First of all, there should be no activity involving the affected part of gums thereby giving time for the skin tissues and nerve endings to heal.

Secondly administering an ice pack for about 10 minutes at a time and repeating the same over the affected area causes the shrinking of blood vessels and nerve endings to constrain and stop bleeding and swelling. For a few hours or up to a day, it is advisable to take in only liquids through straw and do not take any chewable food items. The patient has to restrict the food intake for few days and go for only soft food which can be swallowed easily and does not cause any friction or irritation to the gums in affected area. Many times the doctors advise keeping medicated gauze in between the gums and bite into them and hold the position for some time to bring down the swelling. With strict adherence to the doctor's advice you will start healing very fast. However always be careful to use soft brush and do not cause any damage to the gums.

impacted wisdom teeth

How To Brush Teeth Properly

Having a nice healthy set of teeth is absolutely essential, manily because its the only pair we ever get, unlike our disposable toe nails. An abnormally low maxillary labial fraenum is the most common cause of gapped front teeth in the upper jaw. This gap is called maxillary diastema. The abnormal fraenum is attached so low on the gum-line that it props apart the two front teeth.

It is important to close your gap because a tooth gap can cause tooth misalignment. A large tooth gap between the front teeth could leave insufficient room for the ones next to the front teeth. This may cause tooth displacement and problems with the bite. Another reason is self-consciousness. Some people may feel embarrassed, and reluctant to smile with parted lips.

Gapped front teeth in the upper jaw close by themselves in many cases. Generally, a baby's teeth start to erupt between six and nine months. At this early age, the front teeth could be gapped and the maxillary labial fraenum attached low to the gum. By the time the child reaches its first birthday, the fraenum has probably shortened, and the eruption of more teeth has closed any gaps. If the adult front teeth are gapped, the eruption of molars helps to crowd the front teeth together. About one in 10 children have gapped adult front teeth that don't close by themselves.

Luckily, there is a simple solution to close your gap. Teeth Gap offers a product called teeth effects. Teeth effects are like little rubber bands that wrap around the teeth which have a gap. Since the band is stretched out it pulls your teeth inward causing the tooth gap to close.

http://www.teethgap.com

Benefits of Flossing Teeth

Lets face it, flossing your teeth can be a hassle and an unwanted chore for people with a busy life and scheduled, however their are many important benefits from flossing your teeth. Many of the foods that we eat contain solid ingredients such as seeds, nuts, and occasionally bones, which can be very adept at chipping and breaking teeth. The repair of chipped teeth can often mean less than affordable dental work. How can you get affordable dental enamel repair once your enamel chips or breaks? While every oral situation may be different, here are 4 common fixes for chipped or broken teeth.

1. File Down to Fix. Occasionally, a chip in your enamel will be small enough to be unnoticeable to the eye. However, even a small chip can eventually lead to a sharp point on your tooth - a point definitely noticeable to your tongue! In this situation, a dentist can often file and polish slightly to knock off the sharp edge. This filing process is the most affordable dental option for chipped teeth - if your chip is this small, then there may be no other work needed.

2. Rebuild With Resin-Based Composite. Resin-based composite is the name of the white material commonly used in fillings. If your missing chip is large enough to be seen, but does not reach the tooth's roots, a dentist can often rebuild your tooth using a resin composite. The composite can be shaded to match the regular color of your enamel, to fit in with the rest of your teeth. This process, often referred to as "bonding," is an affordable dental option compared to the more extensive work required to fix severe chips.

3. Cap With a Crown. If a larger portion of your tooth has been compromised, a dentist may need to cap it with a crown - a hard protective cover which fits over the top of your broken tooth. In order for a dentist to place a crown, you must have enough of the original tooth remaining for the crown to attach to. The crown will keep your enamel from chipping further, and will protect the remaining broken part.

4. Remove and Replace. In some cases, your tooth may break off to the point that a composite or a crown cannot be used. If your tooth is broken or cracked to this extent, your dentist may have to pull your tooth, then add a replacement tooth in its place. Replacement teeth can be added in the form of a partial denture, a permanent bridge, or individual implants. Your most affordable dental option is always to save your original tooth, if possible - pulling and replacing a tooth should be your last resort. Still, while implants can be very expensive, an affordable dental plan or insurance may be able to cut the cost.

There are a number of different ways a dentist can fix or replace a broken tooth. If you currently have a chipped tooth, you should plan a visit to a certified dentist to have it checked out. Since every chip will be different, your dentist will be able to tell you more specifically what may be done to fix your broken tooth, and what your next steps should be.

affordable dental

Teeth Whitening Pain Cause And Relief

If you have sensitive teeth and have tried teeth whitening products in the past, you'll know that some products can cause a slight pain or tingling feeling. Read below and find out why teeth whitening can cause pain and what you can do to relieve that pain.

Teeth whitening pain is a pretty common side-effect of most significant whitening products. This isn't something you should dread, or think of as a bad thing. Any product that penetrates deep in to your teeth to bleach out the stains that have accumulated over time. Most pain or sensitivity is often results from professional products used at your dentist, as they use concentrated products meant to get results quickly. Those of you out there seeking to limit sensitivity may opt to use an over the counter product you can find online, or at your local pharmacy. These products will give you more gradual results, that take more time, but create less discomfort.

What causes teeth whitening pain?

If your using a product that's meant to produce immediate results (within an hour), or quick results (a few days), you can expect at least some increased sensitivity. Whitening bleaches and/or light and laser treatments penetrate your tooth enamel to get the deep down stains. Some people get alarmed by this, thinking the product they've used has somehow damaged their teeth. This is rarely the case and the pain or sensitivity usually subsides within a 12 - 24 hour period.

What can you do to help treat teeth whitening pain?

If you're thinking ahead, before the treatment is used or performed, make use of a desensitizing gel or toothpaste for a few days beforehand. If you find yourself having forgotten this step, there are a few simple things you can use:

* Purchase an over-the-counter desensitizing gel or liquid -- in most cases this will numb the teeth whitening pain or sensitivity until it subsides on it's own.
* Aspirin or ibuprofen can be used, provided you have no allergies to either. This can also make the discomfort subside until it goes away on it's own.
* Under no circumstances should you subject yourself to extreme hot or cold foods and beverages. When you feel like the sensitivity has disappeared -- sip some cold water to make sure it is indeed gone.

teeth whitening pain

Sensitive Teeth Cause And Treatment

If you have sensitive teeth, you know exactly how frustrating it can be while trying to enjoy your favorite food and drinks. Read below and discover some general information about crooked teeth and getting them fixed.

Were your teeth crooked when you were a kid? Chances are at least one of your own children's will be too: it's a trait that is often passed along from generation to generation, like bright blue eyes or freckles! Of course, there are other reasons as well for not having a perfectly aligned smile. Here is a brief bit of straight talk about crooked teeth and your child.

Why Me?

Some children are really lucky: they lose their baby teeth and their permanent ones come in perfectly straight and picture-worthy. If your kid's adult teeth start growing in crookedly, he may look at other children's smiles and wail: why me? The truth is everyone's got issues they deal with as they grow up; so it's important to let your child know that having crooked teeth to one extent or another is absolutely normal! Reassure him that modern dental technologies and methods make straightening teeth faster and more trouble-free than ever, and when the time is right his smile can be made right.

What Causes Crooked Teeth?

As mentioned earlier, heredity can play a big part. The family gene pool may include large-sized teeth with jaw structure that is too small to hold an entire mouthful.

In some cases, the upper or lower jaw (or even both) may be malformed or they may be different sizes: resulting in overbites or underbites.

Whatever the reason, not correcting the problems can seriously affect good dental health over the long term such as:

--Not being able to chew properly
--Suffering from a speech impediment
--Increased problems with tooth decay
--Chronic straining of jaw muscles, and many more

Of course there are always the psychological repercussions as well: many kids, teens, and adults feel self-conscious about crooked teeth and that feeling affects self-esteem and confidence.

What To Do About Crooked Teeth

If your child has severely crooked teeth, it's a good idea to consult with an orthodontist before the age of 10 in order to get a baseline assessment; but most kids don't get actual braces until approximately age 11, when most of the permanent teeth are in place. If the upper or lower jaw is the problem, earlier treatment while the bone is soft may be the wisest course of action. If you have worries about your child's crooked teeth, taking him to the dentist is a great place to start.

Utah pediatric dentist

Teeth Grinding In Your Sleep (BruxismTreatment)

Teeth grinding is perhaps one of the most commonly ignored ailments that's plaguing people around the globe. Read below and discover a few common treatments for teeth grinding.

Probably the worst part about grinding your teeth in your sleep is that you're totally unaware it's happening. After all, you're asleep! Unfortunately, the next morning can bring about a harsh reality, with jaw pain, headaches, and sensitive teeth.
Worse yet, this condition, known in medical circles as bruxism, can cause further complications if left untreated. These include loss of tooth enamel, loose teeth, and tongue problems. Much like any health problem though, there are underlying causes as to why you're grinding your teeth at night.
Let's look at five causes of teeth grinding at night, and five simple solutions you can implement starting today...
#1. Alignment
Although no one is exactly sure what causes teeth grinding, many
dentists find improper teeth alignment is a big culprit. Of course, getting your teeth aligned isn't a simple solution, but a mouth guard is. In fact, a mouth guard should probably be your very first step, in order to avoid further damage to your teeth until underlying activators can be addressed. Mouth guards are easy to wear, and are readily available. Your dentist can recommend an appropriate choice.
#2. Stress
Ah, now here's where we start getting to the heart of the matter. Be honest with yourself and identify your stress activators. Chances are, these stress points are effecting other aspects of your health as well. Even if they aren't, you'll need to address and deal with your stress. We recommend brisk exercise 5 to 6 times per week. Far and away, exercise is the best stress reliever available to us. Even a one mile walk will help alleviate your stress level.
#3. Posture
We're referring to your sleep posture here. Make sure your head is slightly elevated while you're sleeping. A good, comfortable pillow is your best bet. This will help your airways clear and put you in a more relaxed state. Dentists point to evidence that suggests most teeth griding occurs while sleeping on your back with your head flat and even with your torso. A slight elevation of your head and neck can ease the grinding problem.
#4. Diet
When we discuss diet, we're addressing two different aspects. First, make sure your diet is conducive to restful sleep. That is to say, no late heavy meals or foods that will impede your sleep. However, be aware that some foods and drinks are natural stress reducers. Peppermint is an excellent example. Lemon is another. Try drinking herbal non caffeinated teas flavored with these two elements to creat a chain reaction effect of better sleep and less teeth grinding.
#5. Sleeping Habits
Even if you can't devote a full eight hours for sleep, it's important to try to develop consistent sleeping habits. In today's world, that's often hard to do, but be aware that stress is triggered by inconsistent sleeping patterns. The unfortunate consequence is often teeth grinding.

Cure For Teeth Grinding

Summary
Probably the biggest cause of teeth grinding is stress. And while stress usually can not be alleviated using one strategy alone, it's important to recognize and understand your stress factors. Usually, these factors are the primary cause of grinding your teeth while you sleep.
Take a good hard look at the five solutions above. Be honest with yourself, and then implement the strategy or strategies most appropriate for you. When in doubt, start with your dentist, who can tell you if your teeth grinding is due to a condition beyond your control. Fortunately though, most teeth grinding is caused by stress and not more serious medical problems. Address your stress, and chances are great you'll resolve your teeth grinding problems.

www.caringforyourteeth.info

Natural Teeth Whitening Home Remedies

Did you know that there are common household products which can effectively whiten your teeth without spending a single red cent on teeth whitening products or trips to the dentist?

Everyone wants to have whiter teeth, but not everyone wants to spend extra money to achieve a beautiful smile. There are a number of home remedies available for whitening teeth that are found in your kitchen or medicine cabinet.

The tastiest remedy for whiter teeth is to use strawberries. Strawberries contain a natural acid which whitens teeth. You can either crush the strawberries and use as you would toothpaste, or slice open the strawberry and rub along the teeth. Rinse well when finished.

The cheapest remedy for whiter teeth is baking soda, which is even found in expensive teeth whitening toothpastes. You can make a baking soda paste by adding some water to it, and use on your toothbrush, or you can blend the baking soda with your toothpaste. Remember to rinse well when finished.

Swishing hydrogen peroxide can also whiten your teeth, although it does not taste very good.Take care not to swallow it. Rinse well when finished.

Table salt may be used to whiten teeth. First use salt on your toothbrush with a drop of water to brush teeth. Then follow up with salt mixed with your toothpaste and brush again. Rinse.

Whatever method you choose to try, remember that some of them work by disintegrating the stains on the enamel of your teeth. Be careful not to leave any of these home remedies on for longer than necessary, which is about the time that it takes to brush your teeth, and always rinse with a lot of water. You will see results after several weeks.

home teeth whitening

Safe Teeth Whitening at Home

Believe it or not, there are several safe and effective teeth whitening remedies you can use from the comfort of your own home. Read below and discover some old fashion methods to whitening your teeth.

If you're looking for teeth whitening tips, then you have many options available to you. Ranging from easy and complicated home methods, to store bought products and dentist prescriptions, there are a multitude of viable and effective ways of whitening your teeth. In this article, we'll start from the beginning and take a look at some of the more simple and easy methods you can try from the comfort of your home.

One of the oldest as well as easiest ways you can whiten your teeth is by using baking soda. Since you may already have baking soda on hand (and if not, it's readily available in almost every grocery store), this is an especially convenient method. Simply mix the baking soda in a container with water to form a paste like substance. You can then apply this mixture to your teeth with a toothbrush, just like if you were brushing with normal toothpaste. You may also want to rinse beforehand with water to remove and food residue that may have built up.

You can also further the use of baking soda by complimenting it with strawberries, which have been shown to be helpful in cleaning and shining teeth. Start out by taking the strawberry and crushing it in a bowl. Then add in baking soda and mix the two together until you have a nice pasty substance. Next, apply the mixture to your teeth and let it sit for about five minutes before removing it by brushing your teeth normally. This is an easy and efficient way to clean your teeth from stains. Just be sure not to do it more than once a week, as repeated use can cause damage to your teethes enamel.

You can also use the skin of lemons and oranges to clean and shine your teeth. Simply take the peel, and using the inside part, wipe it against your teeth in a brushing like motion. If you're using a lemon peel, you may find better results by adding a pinch of salt to the inside of the peel.

teeth whitening techniques
